It’s Time to Make the Switch to Aluminum

You may have used steel conduit for years because, well, that’s just the way it’s been. It’s true that steel is strong and reliable, but so is aluminum – and aluminum costs a great deal less. You can cover a lot more ground with aluminum than you can steel for the price, and you’ll also see savings in other areas as well.

Aluminum is about one-third the weight of steel. The average 10-foot section of steel conduit weighs right at 100 pounds, while the same amount of aluminum conduit only weighs about 34 pounds. Instead of having to use three workers to lug steel conduit around the jobsite and install it, you only need one.

So, you’re probably assuming that you’ll be giving up something in order to save that much money. Actually, you won’t. We treat our aluminum with 6000 series alloys that give them the strength of steel, but without the corrosion or rust. Aluminum has a special coating of aluminum oxide that keeps it from degrading. As a result, you can use it outside or inside, and it will continue to protect your delicate wiring for decades.
