Aluminum – The Clear Choice Instead of Steel

Aluminum conduit can be used in just about any kind of environment imaginable – whether it’s wet, dry, contains hazardous materials, etc. You’ll find our conduit in a wide range of applications, including the following:

  • Coal mining
  • Telecommunications
  • Corrosive environments, such as food processing plants
  • Wastewater treatment facilities
  • Construction (industrial, residential and commercial)
  • Power plants
  • Refineries
  • Paper and pulp mills
  • Food and beverage operations

One of the main reasons our conduit is used in so many applications is that aluminum is a better choice than steel. Aluminum will not degrade, even in the most corrosive environment. It also won’t spark, making it safe to use in volatile settings. Since aluminum is only about a third of the weight of steel, it is a lot easier to maneuver, and it’s also much easier to install.

Aluminum RMC and EMT

If you’re not that familiar with aluminum conduit, there are two main types: rigid metal conduit (RMC) and electrical metallic tubing (EMT). Here’s a brief comparison.

  • Aluminum RMC – This type of tubing is threaded, and has thick walls. You attach sections of tubing together by using metal connectors and setscrews. RMC keeps wiring protected from dangers such accidental impacts.
  • Aluminum EMT – Our PullEase EMT is thinner than RMC and unthreaded. It allows for much faster wire pulling as a result. Even though it’s not as thick as RMC, you can still use it outside. You can also bend and cut PullEase EMT very quickly and easily, using tools you already have.
