It’s Time to Make the Switch

We’ve been in business for more than four decades. During that time, we’ve heard from a lot of people that steel is, and always will be, the best material to use for conduit. We obviously disagree. In fact, we believe that the opposite is true. Aluminum is the better material, and we don’t think it’s even close. If you try it once, you’ll see why this is the case.

  • Unless it’s coated with very, very expensive materials, steel will eventually corrode. When this happens, the cables and wiring inside of steel conduit will be exposed to the materials, and quickly degrade as a result. That will never be an issue with aluminum, since it doesn’t corrode. The reason is that aluminum has built-in protection, thanks to a natural coating of aluminum oxide. You’ll get the same durability as you would from galvanized steel, but at a fraction of the cost.
  • While steel is incredibly strong, conduit from American Conduit is just as strong. We treat our aluminum with special alloys that make it much stronger than any other aluminum conduit on the market. It’s just as tough, and does just as good a job of protecting wiring and cables.
  • Aluminum is much safer as well. Steel can emit noxious fumes when exposed to heat. It can also spark, which could mean disaster in any sort of volatile environment. Aluminum does neither. You can use it whenever you like, and wherever you like.
  • Going back to durability, you can use aluminum in any setting where there’s a lot of moisture, and there are also a lot of corrosive chemicals in use. For example, you can use it in a food processing plant with no concerns.
  • Steel conduit doesn’t protect computers and other sensitive pieces of electronic equipment from electromagnetic interference, but aluminum does.
  • Finally, aluminum is much better for your bottom line as well. It only weighs about a third of what steel weighs, so you’ll save a great deal of money. Our clients routinely save tens of thousands of dollars – in many cases, they save even more. Check our case studies page to learn more.
