Electrical metallic tubing (EMT) is a thin-walled metal raceway that is used indoors and outdoors to protect enclosed electrical conductors from impact, moisture and chemical vapors. If your application calls for 1-inch EMT conduit, the patented easy-to-pull PullEase product from American Conduit can meet your needs.

1 Inch EMT Conduit

American Conduit is a product brand of Hydro, the largest aluminum extruder in the world. Hydro Extrusion North America includes 23 plant locations, 10 paint lines, and 4 anodizing lines. The company produces over 550 million pounds of extrusions per year.

Our products are manufactured at Hydro’s extrusion facility in St. Augustine, Florida. We offer coast to coast distribution through a network of more than 20 stocking warehouses and 33 representatives nationwide.

At any given time, we have nearly 1 million pounds of aluminum conduit material are in stock and ready to ship from our stocking warehouses. Our mission is to support our customers’ success by creating exceptional value through innovative product and service solutions.

Why EMT?

EMT is an unthreaded, thin-walled tubing that is typically made of galvanized steel or aluminum. Although often called “thin-wall conduit,” EMT is technically considered tubing. PullEase is a patented aluminum EMT from American Conduit designed with internal ridges to reduce pulling resistance and make wire pulling fast and simple.

Aluminum EMT is connected by means of clamp-type fittings that slide onto the tubing and are secured with a set-screw. This is a major advantage over steel EMT, especially when following irregular or curved building profiles.

EMT is popular in commercial and industrial applications because it is lighter and thinner than rigid metal conduit and is relatively easy to bend and cut. It offers both physical protection and corrosion resistance so it can be used in exposed, concealed or wet locations.

EMT is also useful as an equipment grounding conductor. It eliminates the need for a separate grounding conductor and simplifies future wiring changes.

Why Aluminum EMT?

Important advantages of using aluminum EMT instead of steel include:

  • Thinner and half the weight of steel. Save money by covering more distance with the same amount of weight;
  • Easy to bend and cut on the job site with a minimum of special tools, resulting in neater installations;
  • Superior corrosion resistance so it can be used in installations that are wet with water or chemicals, such as food processing plants;
  • Can be installed outdoors, as long as all fittings, supports and fasteners are made of corrosion-resistant materials;
  • When installed with proper sealing fittings, it protects from fire and explosions by preventing the flow of flammable gases and fumes from volatile substances;
  • Helps block electromagnetic radiation emitted by electrical circuits that causes unwanted interference and noise;
  • Can be coated to protect from incidental contact with alkalis when installed in concrete walls and slabs;
