Why Choose Aluminum Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT)?

EMT, sometimes referred to as thin-wall conduit, is manufactured in galvanized steel and aluminum and used to protect and route electrical wiring. It is more popular than galvanized steel rigid conduit (GRC) in commercial and industrial applications thanks to its lighter weight and lower cost.

Although steel EMT may be more widely used, American Conduit’s PullEase aluminum EMT has some important advantages to consider, such as:

  • Patented internal ridges for easy wire pulling
  • Costs less than steel EMT
  • Half the weight of steel and easier to maneuver
  • Easy field fabrication
  • Highest strength to weight ratio of any metal
  • Inherent EMI shielding
  • Improved thermal and electrical conductivity
  • Naturally corrosion resistant
  • Non-magnetic
  • Non-sparking
  • Non-combustible
  • Non-toxic even at high temperatures
  • Better visual appearance with no rust
  • Virtually maintenance free
  • UL Listed
  • Adheres to ANSI C80.5
  • National Electric Code® (NEC) compliant
  • Readily available and in stock

More Advantages

American Conduit aluminum EMT is made with a high purity 6000 series aluminum alloy, to ensure excellent strength and exceptional corrosion resistance. This makes it an ideal solution for installations where GRC steel tubing would be unsuitable due to water or chemicals, such as in a food processing plant.

Aluminum EMT conduit can be easily cut and bent on the job site, resulting in neater installations, requires few manufactured fittings. Although it cannot be threaded, threaded fittings can be clamped to it. This is a major advantage, particularly when following irregular or curved building profiles.

Aluminum EMT helps block the electromagnetic radiation emitted by electrical circuits that causes unwanted interference and noise. When installed with proper fittings, it will also provide greater protection from fire and explosions by preventing the flow of flammable gases and fumes from volatile substances.

Aluminum cannot be embedded in concrete because it reacts to the alkalis in cement, but our aluminum EMT conduit can be coated to protect it from incidental contact when installed in concrete walls and slabs.

American Conduit products adhere to all applicable provisions of the National Electric Code® (NEC), the Underwriters Laboratories, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), Canadian Standards Association (CSA), and federal specifications.
