American Conduit literally has tons of electrical wire conduit – about a million pounds, in fact – in stock at all times. As a result, you can buy from us with confidence. Not only do we carry the highest quality conduit, we also have more than 20 warehouses across the country, as well as more than 30 distributors. That means we’ll be able to deliver your conduit quickly, no matter where you are in the United States. The days of downtime because you ran out of conduit will be a thing of the past.

Aluminum Conduit Vs. Steel Conduit

Electrical Wire ConduitYou can call us biased, since aluminum conduit is what we carry, but we are convinced aluminum is the superior choice over steel. How can that be the case? For one, our conduit is just as strong. We produce aluminum using 6000 series alloys, giving our conduit the strength needed to take on the most demanding applications. Steel is renowned for being a very easy material through which to pull cable, but our conduit makes it just as easy.

The alloys we use are the “secret sauce,” so to speak, that makes our aluminum so strong. These alloys contain substances, such as copper, magnesium, zinc and silicon. Put together, they make our conduit so strong that it can withstand major impacts. Aluminum isn’t just something used to hold soda – it’s a material that is strong enough to make up many of the vehicles on our roads today. Aluminum excels at absorbing energy, and helps to protect passengers and drivers from automobile accidents.

But our alloys aren’t the only reasons American Conduit products are incredibly strong. We use hot and cold rolling during the production process. When you heat aluminum and then immediately cool it, the strength of the material grows exponentially. This is one of the reasons why aluminum gets stronger when the temperature gets lower.

Other Reasons to Always Choose Aluminum Conduit

As important as strength may be, it’s not the only reason you should always use aluminum conduit. Cost-effectiveness is another huge consideration. Since aluminum weighs 30 percent less than steel you won’t pay nearly as much. You also won’t pay as much to ship your conduit.

Labor savings can also be substantial. A single, 10-foot length of steel conduit weighs in the neighborhood of 100 pounds. The same length of aluminum conduit is only 34 pounds. It’s very simple math – you’d probably need two, or even three, workers to maneuver and install one section of steel conduit. You’d only need one to do the same job with aluminum conduit.

In addition to cost-effectiveness, aluminum also excels when it comes to durability. Unless it’s coated with expensive substances, steel will corrode. You typically can’t use it in damp environments, or environments where chemicals are present. Aluminum doesn’t present any of those concerns, because it has natural, built-in corrosion resistance.

Aluminum is also a great deal safer because, unlike steel, it doesn’t emit sparks. If you use steel conduit in flammable or otherwise volatile settings, the consequences could be catastrophic.
