Why You Should Always Choose Aluminum Conduit

Conduit performs the vital function of protecting wiring and other critically important electrical components. Many people believe that steel is the best choice when it comes to buying conduit – but we passionately disagree. These are just a few of the reasons why we feel that aluminum is by far the superior material.

  • Steel conduit does a relatively good job of protecting electrical circuits. However the material can sometimes allow those circuits to interfere with nearby sensitive equipment. The reason is that steel can’t block the electromagnet radiation those circuits emit. Aluminum, on the other hand, blocks that radiation – and blocks interference in the process.
  • Aluminum is much less expensive than steel – as much as 10 to 20 percent per foot. We’ve provided conduit used in a lot of major projects, and the companies overseeing these projects have saved hundreds of thousands of dollars by using aluminum.
  • Not only will you save on material costs, you’ll also save on labor. Aluminum conduit is just as strong as steel, but it’s also 30 percent lighter. As a result, it’s much easier to maneuver. When you use steel, you might need two or three people to be able to move it into place. Because aluminum is so much lighter, there’s a good chance you’ll only need one.
  • Aluminum is superior from a safety perspective as well. When paired with the proper fittings, aluminum keeps flammable fumes and gases from interacting with volatile substances. This greatly reduces the risk of a fire or explosion. Also, steel conduit can often times emit sparks – that won’t happen with aluminum.
  • Finally, aluminum won’t corrode like steel. That makes it perfect for use in damp environments, or environments that use a lot of chemicals.
